The Cincinnati Man’s Best Bar In Cincinnati Tournament

Starting this July, The Cincinnati Man is hosting its first tournament: Best Bar in Cincinnati.  We’re looking for a broad cross-section: Old Man Bars, Overcrowded College Weekend Bars, High-end Rich Guy Bars, Laid Back Jazz Bars… you get the picture.  They’re all getting mixed into a field of 64, and you’ll vote on them.

Here’s the catch.

We want you to nominate them.  So, you can either nominate your favorite bar in Cincinnati or send ‘em to us here (bars@thecincinnatiman.com).  Deadline for nominations is July 1, 2009.  If you’ve got a favorite bar, let us know.  First 64 nominations get in.

  • I’ll tweet this in a few. As a parent of littles, I don’t get out as often as I’d like to the bar scene anymore. But two are perennial faves for us. The Pub in Crestview Hills, and The Claddaugh at Newport on the Levee. My husband is british and we love the atmosphere at both. I can enjoy a very nice single malt whiskey at either, though the selection is better at the Pub. (Nicholson’s downtown is best, but parking sucks.) Both have authentic atmosphere as well. The Claddaugh reminds us of several pubs we have visited in Dublin and Galway. And the outdoor patio and view can’t be beat on nice evenings. Fish and Chips, a good pint, followed by a great whiskey and some good conversation with friends? Well, that’s what makes a great evening!

Its not a ’staggering distance’ bar, as I suspect you’re looking for–the old neighborhood joints. But for us, they’re our favorite hang-outs. When we get away from the littles, that is!

For downtown bars, my favorites are:

Nicholsons (great beer and scotch selection)
Arnolds (oldest bar in the city – something like 137 years!)
Omalley’s in the Alley (my favorite hole in the wall)

I’ll throw The Crazy Fox in Newport out there.

Great vibe, decent jukebox, and close to the house. Decent beer selection, but I can’t comment on the liquor. I rarely imbibe that way.

I’ll vote in the upstairs patio bar at Chez Nora: Usually good music, low key, comfortable, good view and ambiance, and lack of amateurs. Cons: not that good of a selection of beers and they frequently run out of Guinness (which i am part responsible for).

De Felice as well. Great Jazz, great liquor selection, not too many beers though. The selection of beers doesn’t bring me down because Guinness gets mad if I cheat on it.

Apparently I listen to a lot of Jazz when I drink.
