Another Sport America Needs: Hurling, or “I’ll Break Your Face Field Hockey”

Hurling is yet another sport in a series of sports we’ve looked at that are just plain manly, and worse, way manlier than anything we religiously follow here in the U.S.  While it’s not quite the all-out war that is Calcio Fiorentino, it looks like Irish lacrosse, and there’s the potential for getting busted in the mouth with a club.

We have lacrosse in the US, and we have hockey.  I guess we have field hockey, too, but not where you’re allowed to fight.  Also, there are pads.

What a bunch of lady-parts.

About half of the guys on the hurling pitch at any one time wear helmets; it looks to me like the pads are pretty limited, sort of like rugby.  The lack of pads plus sticks leads to awesome (this vid is half Gaelic football, but you get the point):

There’s no shortage of footage just like this all over the damn place.  There are only a couple conclusions to come to with respect to hurling: you don’t understand the rules, and it’s manlier than that twatty NFL crap you (and I) watch every Sunday.

  • Hurling is badass. I used to watch it on Setanta when the channel was offered for free for a month on DISH.

That channel also had Australian Rules Football. If you have a lot of spare cash, I recommend subscribing.
