Return of “The Furball:” Q1160 and Andy Furman

Longtime Cincinnati sports radio fixture Andy Furman is getting his radio passport stamped again.  As of today, he is back on the air at yet another station and yelling at yet more people.

Furman’s latest tour of our radio world makes him the only local voice on “Real Talk 1160″ AM.  Christian Broadcasting Systems owns the station.  Furman is Jewish, but he’s also white and upset about a lot of things, much like the rest of the station’s lineup which includes Neil Boortz and Laura Ingraham.

You probably remember Furman from his years on WLW.  Furman worked there nearly 20 years before he got fired for his feud with  T.J. Houshmandzadeh.  Furman told anyone who would listen that Houshmandzadeh was a racist after he no-showed his program.

Then he landed at “SupertalkFM”.  What?  You don’t remember that station?  That’s because it changed formats after only a year, and is now 96 Rock.

Who the Hell knows what Furman has been doing in the three years since.  But he did manage to line-up Pete Rose for his first show back on the air.  Then again, Pete will do anything as long as he gets $20 for it.

As for whether Furman’s new gig will last long, the Magic 8 Ball says “doesn’t look good.”  His new radio home has changed formats and owners almost as many times as you’ve heard the “Five Dollar Footlong” song.  The new owners haven’t exactly gotten off on the right foot, either.  According to Wikipedia (which is never, ever wrong), the station had to change its “Q1160″ nickname, website, and branding after only a few hours on the air; they hadn’t realized that “Q106″ had been using that nickname ’round these parts for 30 years or so.

And then there is the matter Furman’s bio on the station’s website.  It is a word for word copy and paste of what Furman wrote about himself on his MySpace page nearly two years ago.  Which screams “professional, big-time radio station.”

Then again, Houshmandzadeh ended up with the Seattle Seahawks.  Funny how everyone ended up a loser.
