Just a Couple More Days… [TCM Podcast!]

Hey, all.  Just thought I’d drop another quick how-ya-doin’ about our podcast, which will see release IN A COUPLE DAYS FROM RIGHT NOW-ISH.  I’m pretty excited about it, and you should be, too.  You’ll get some giggles and junk, probably.  So, strap in and watch this death metal version of the “Bed Intruder” song in the meantime.

Followup: More JJeff Junk…

Earlier in the week, we had a bunch of comments on our little story about JJeff’s little “Citation forgetting” what-have-you. A few of them brought up some pretty good points that The Beacon hasn’t responded to. Just as a followup to that, I sent him an email. In the spirit of The Beacon, I’m posting it here.

Re: your failure to correctly cite Nader’s work–care to respond to the following comment, which originally appeared @ The Cincinnati Man?

It gets worse.

Facts indicate that Justin Jeffre plagiarized the Nader material in two signed articles published by the Cincinnati Beacon. Then, after being tagged by The Cincinnati Man (TCM), Jeffre tried to defraud Beacon readers.

On September 11, 2010, TCM published Justin Jeffre is a Plagiarist: http://ow.ly/2DYLH

TCM’s article was about Jeffre’s September 9, 2010 article published by the Beacon, What does Bill Clinton’s support of Lee Fisher say about Fisher: http://ow.ly/2DYTJ

TCM caught Jeffre failing to identify that a 20-point critique of the Clinton White House in Jeffre’s article was lifted word-for-word from “Crashing the Party,” a book by Ralph Nader. A short time later, Jeffre added the following paragraph to his Beacon article. Let’s call this Citation1:

(*Update: When I copied this from an article I wrote in 2008 I thought I had also copied the attribution to Ralph Nader. I did put it in quotations. Thanks to the anonymous tipster for the heads up and thanks for reading the Cincinnati Beacon.)

Citation1 includes a link to a March 2, 2008 Beacon article by Jeffre, “Judgment Day Is Here? Here’s a closer look at the Clinton record.” That article includes the same 20-point Clinton White House critique, followed this, which we’ll call Citation2:

(*Ralph Nader -Crashing the Party)

First, click here to see Jeffre’s 2008 article with Citation2: http://ow.ly/2DZ48

Now click this link which leads to the same 2008 article in Google’s cache dated September 1, 2010 and try to find Citation2: http://ow.ly/2EIVq

It isn’t there. So unless something’s wrong with Google, Citation2 was added to Jeffre’s 2008 article sometime after September 1, 2010.

Per Citation1, Jeffre assured Beacon readers that his failure to credit Nader was an oversight, that he simply neglected to copy and paste the citation from his 2008 article into his more recent article. But if the 2008 article did not include the citation, there was nothing to copy.

In other words, unless Google is broken, Jeffre’s 2008 article was recently altered to allow him to concoct an alibi.
* Articles expire from Google cache, so here’s a screencap: http://ow.ly/2E0EQ

Now, this commenter clearly takes the transgression way more seriously than I do, but he does make a point: why all the work, when you could just be a man and explain yourself in simple terms?

I don’t expect a response, but whatever.

Justin Jeffre is a Plagiarist [Now With Less Plagiarism!]

For all the complaining that The Dean of Cincinnati and Justin Jeffre do about the accountability of various public offices, they seem to have few, if any, checks and balances in place regarding the content of their site. This post from the Beacon, which went up yesterday, contains the following list without any attribution or reference:

What the Clinton-Gore administration did:

1. Promoted welfare reform that ended the federal safety net and put many children at risk.

2. Lobbied, with big business, NAFTA and GATT into law against labor, consumer, environmental and human-rights groups.

3. Expanded corporate welfare programs.

4. Approved dozens of giant mergers in the chemical, oil, drug, defense, agribusiness, media, HMO, hospital, auto, banking, and other financial institutions.

5. Encouraged larger military weapons exports by the private munitions companies using taxpayer subsidies and approved many costly and redundant weapons programs.

6. Supported a bloated military budget, post-Soviet Union, driven more by defense industry greed than national defense needs.

7. Failed to enforce laws against corporate crime, fraud and abuse.

8. Gave away to corporations massive taxpayer assets in natural resources, scientific, health, space, and other R&D areas.

9. Bailed out, with taxpayer billions, reckless governments and oligarchies through the IMF.

10. Opened up large areas of Northern Alaska for oil and gas drilling and supported the destruction by coal companies of mountaintops in Appalachia.

11. Gave the auto companies an eight-year holiday from higher fuel efficiency and auto safety standards.

12. Signed legislation eroding civil liberties and produced a record that commentators called “abysmal.”

13. Under-enforced the civil rights laws while orating for them.

14. Backed large corporate prison expansions and failed to address discriminatory patterns of criminal justice enforcement.

15. Supported dictatorships and oligarchies that suppressed their people.

16. Continued the deep sleep of the regulatory agencies at the expense of health, safety and economic assets of consumers and workers.

17. Favored big agribusiness over the family farmer.

18. Subsidized and gave the biotechnology industry insulation from regulation.

19. Raised large amounts of money from almost every corporate interest and let big money continue to nullify honest elections.

20. Opposed ways and means to facilitate consumers, workers, taxpayers, and investors banding together for self-defense.

Knowing what we know about Justin Jeffre and his less-than-stellar writing skills (which is to say, he borders retarded as a writer), this is way, way, too well-written to be Jeffre. So, who is it?

…Wait for it…

Ralph Nader. Yep. It’s a list from Appendix D of Crashing the Party. You can find it right here. This makes Justin Jeffre a plagiarist, and therefore a wuss of the worst order.

ed.–Thanks, anonymous tipster.

UPDATE: Following our lil’ back-and-forth (see below), it looks like JJeff added a citation of sorts to his piece.  So, there’s that.  To be fair, it’s really only my aim to get TDOC to comment here at TCM.  So, mission accomplished.  Too bad JJeff couldn’t defend himself.
