#3: The Fatherhood Episode [The Cincinnati Man Podcast]

In this episode, I talk about fatherhood, how manliness/manhood relates to it, the cliches of parenthood, and the emotional content of being a parent. It’s about as serious as I can possibly get.

There’s also a bit of music mixed in. List:

Thistle: “My Own Armor”
Guilt: “Xi”
Daniel Johnston: “I Live for Love”
Crooked Fingers: “Wrecking Ball”
Explosion Kills Asshole: “The Unbearable Lightness of Peeing”
Kaada: “Go Brown”
Umin: “Musa”

The theme music for The Cincinnati Man Podcast is “Persephone” by Pop Empire and is available at their website, http://www.popempire.com.

Rate and review at iTunes, eh? We’d really appreciate it.

Me. You. Halloween. The Walking Dead.

I couldn’t possibly be more excited about The Walking Dead, which is gonna fittingly premier on Halloween. It will immediately be the best show on television. I promise. Here’s a 17-minute “Making Of” doc that AMC put together as a promotion. Holy wow.

Enquirer, Streetcar Coverage, and Bo Duke (Oh, My)

I’ve been reading the Enquirer a day or so late over the past month, give or take (a side-effect of having kids, I’m afraid), so I just got around to the giant section in Sunday’s paper devoted to streetcar coverage. It’s probably just be me projecting a bit, because I remember the anti-streetcar tone they’ve taken in the past, but did just about all of those stories carry a sort of deep, difficult-to-put-a-finger-on grumpy tone to them? Each story is written with the “This side says this, that side says that” model, which I guess is an attempt to give both sides time, so to speak. I can appreciate the effort, I suppose. Here are the headlines and subheads from each piece:

  • Streetcar a financial gamble
  • Like it or not, streetcar is reality
  • A reality check for Cincinnati’s streetcar
  • Subhead: “It’s either the ‘city’s future’ or ‘biggest boondoggle ever’
  • and my personal favorite: John Schneider will be the one to thank – or blame

Of course, I had an image immediately pop into my head:

Mayor Mallory introducing "The man you can blame for all this bullshit, Bo Duke."

In the end, all this makes me wonder whether it’s a good idea for the Enquirer to continue to cover the streetcar for the time being, given that they’re suing the Mayor and City Council over those streetcar funding meetings. Functionally, it probably doesn’t really mean anything editorially speaking, but I wonder whether the fact of the lawsuit adds an air of slantedness to them.

But again, that’s probably just me projecting.

Election Season Fun: Politician O-Faces!

The technology’s there, so I thought it a good idea to hunt down some OH/KY politicians with slightly awkward faces.  If I come across more, I’ll post.  Enjoy!
