Enquirer Sues Mayor, City Council. Who Gives a Shit?
There’s a pretty good chance that, if you follow local news at all, you’ve seen numerous stories about the Enquirer suing Mayor Mallory and City Council for holding “secret” meetings that should have been public. While I can’t argue the notion that Mallory and Council are in the wrong here (hey, maybe the meetings should have been public), I’m not sure that the Enquirer suing City Hall is such a groundbreaking thing. Newspapers sue city offices ALL THE TIME. What’s more, newspapers sue over really similar issues all the time.
So, let’s not get too excited, eh? The Enquirer called out City Hall. That’s all that’s happening here. You should be paying attention, but nothing too exciting is going on here–it just so happens that the paper’s half-doing its job right now. Which is more than what we usually see. So, half-bravo!
