At most recent count, I think I saw something like 1,300 jobs cut by Gannett over the course of the last week. Some folks are reporting that it’s still going on. Everything I’ve seen has said that The Cincinnati Enquirer lost 101 jobs last week in this round of cuts (are there more to come?). In [...] Curious about how our fine paper would frame the layoffs, I came across this article on their website’s front page: Cin Weekly becomes Metromix Wow. No mention of the layoffs, just a “rebranding.” Never mind the fact that it’s much, much more than that, and that this article is utterly pregnant with the pain of 100 people. [...] Just saw this story at CityBeat’s website. Not much to say about this that hasn’t already been said, except for, “Damn, I hope they can keep it together.” Well, that and “If Gannett had paid attention to technology, they wouldn’t be in the shitter.” |
